File Format

So I just did a nifty little experiment where I listened to 1.41 Mbps music through my TV speakers (fed via a HDMI cable) and then through headphones, and did the same with 320 Kbps. I couldn't tell the difference on any track I played. I tried multiple tracks from The Dillinger Escape Plan, including Lurch (Heavy Metal sound), When Acting As A Particle (Light percussion and violins), When Acting As A Wave (Heavy Techno and sharp low guitar work), and Mouth of Ghosts (Electronic effects and acoustic piano). So I ask, what do you use, why do you use it, and can you tell a difference between file formats?

If I recall, the difference is only notable if you're using high-end equipment, and, obviously, you won't notice any difference if you convert from a lower bitrate to a higher one. Personally, I just get my files in whatever format I can, which is usually FLAC or 320k MP3, but I occasionally get obscure ones like tak.

Anything beyond 320 as past your aural acuity.

Compare 128 with 192 with 320 with FLAC/ALAC or similar.
